UKRAINE, Oct. 9 — Ukraine’s energy system temporarily lost part of its capacity to transmit electricity to the consumers because of Russian attacks on power equipment and high-voltage power lines, reports the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The ministry explained that, during the last weeks, Russian troops intensified airstrikes on power infrastructure, e.g., power lines that transfer electricity between Ukraine’s regions, with the threat of attacks also complicating subsequent repairs.
Because of damage to the equipment—particularly damage caused by the Russian attacks on Oct. 8—and voltage drop in the high-voltage networks, emergency outages are introduced in Kyiv and Kyiv oblast, the ministry added.
Consumers are left without electricity in Kyiv and seven regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv oblasts.
