UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Aug 7 — Over the past day, in the Kharkiv direction, Russians fired 517 times at Ukrainian positions, reported the “Kharkiv” group of forces.

Russia started its new offensive north and northeast in the Kharkiv region in May, but Ukrainian troops have stabilized the frontline in this section since. Now, heavy battles are ongoing in and around Vovchansk (three miles from the border, 46 miles away from Kharkiv) and near Lyptsi (six miles from the border, 12 miles from Kharkiv.)

Russia uses artillery, mortars, and multiple launch rocket systems to strike at the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The “Kharkiv” group of forces said the increase in number of attacks may indicate Russia’s intentions to launch active assaults.

“There were 11 combat clashes [in the Kharkiv direction] over the past day. This is a typical number. However, the number of attacks increased significantly. Yesterday [Russia broke the record, conducting] 517 attacks in our area of responsibility [in the Kharkiv direction],” said Vitalii Sarantsev, a spokesman of the “Kharkiv” group of forces.

According to him, the only thing that has decreased is the Russian use of aviation.

Attacks near Vovchansk are very intense. According to intelligence reports, Russian forces are building up their troops and pulling up their equipment to the area. However, according to the “Kharkiv” group of forces, the situation remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
