UKRAINE, Aug. 19 — Ukraine returned 103 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) from the Russian captivity as part of the prisoners exchange with Russia, said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President.

Among the released are soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard of Ukraine, and the State Border Guard Service.

Zelenskyy said that POWs released today had fought in Mariupol and on the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy axes.

Most of the prisoners are wounded or suffer from serious illnesses, reported the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The youngest person freed was born in 2000, and the oldest is 59 years old.

The previous exchange took place on May 15, when 205 POWs were returned. This was the first phase of a 1,000-for-1,000 exchange between Russia and Ukraine, brokered by the United States.
