Jun. 25 — Alaa Salman, Lebanese fact-checker, who worked with the media organization Sawab, died after an Israeli strike on her family’s home in Lebanon, the International Fact-Checking Network reported on Jun. 24.

According to the IFCN, Salman fell into a coma after Israeli forces targeted her house and never regained consciousness.

Sawab is a Lebanese media organization founded in 2022 to counter misinformation, hate speech and fake news and protect civil society. In 2026, Sawab became a signatory of the IFCN, the same international network that includes Gwara Media.

Salman was pursuing her degree in Communication and Social Media at Phoenicia University. The University described her as top-ranked student

“Brilliant, dedicated, and full of promise, she left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her,” The university’s statement said.

IFCN members honored Salman with a moment of silence at the opening of GlobalFact 2026 on Jun. 17 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
