UKRAINE, KHARKIV, May 19 — At 5 a.m. Russian drone hit the Novobavarskyi district of Kharkiv, setting two houses on fire and damaging over 10 others, said the Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
A Gwara Media journalist was at the impact site to film the consequences of the Russian attack.
The mayor said that the emergency services rescued two people from the debris of one of the damaged houses. He also reported that one other person could be trapped under the debris, but later Yevhen Vasylenko, a spokesman for Kharkiv’s State Emergency Service, didn’t confirm this information to Suspilne Kharkiv.
“The owner of the damaged house appeared on the impact site later. He is alive and healthy,” said Vasylenko.
This Russian attack injured two men aged 47 and 67 years old and two women aged 50 and 73 years old, reported the governor of the Kharkiv region Oleg Syniehubov.
“I still don’t know what will happen next,” said Hennadii, one of the owners of damaged houses in the Novobavarskyi district.
“My wife and I were asleep when the strike happened. We were on the first floor, in the far corner. I barely heard anything, just some kind of two-second whistling sound, then a huge blast, everything came crashing down, and I jumped out of bed and ran,” he said.
Hennadii noted it is still unclear whether he and his wife will be able to continue living in the house because it needs to be inspected first.
Syniehubov said that the attack damaged 30 houses, four cars, and a post service building.
Also, the State Emergency Service said that a Russian drone caused a fire in an area of 150 square meters. The rescuers finished extinguishing the fire at 9:21 a.m.
Over the past day, Russian forces attacked Kharkiv and 13 settlements in the region.
