TURKEY, ANTALYA, Apr 11 — Ukraine officially established diplomatic relations with Somalia, writes Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister, on X.
“I signed relevant protocol with Somalia’s State Minister For Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar,” the minister added.
The protocol was signed during the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum, an international conference in Turkey that gathers policy makers, diplomats, and academics to discuss the issues of democracy.
Somalia’s Foreign Ministry wrote that the protocol, formalizing the two countries’ diplomatic relations, reflected “a shared commitment to deepening engagement and fostering mutual understanding.”
“The two ministers held constructive discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring opportunities for collaboration across various fields for the benefit of both nations,” Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
Ukraine is providing Somalia with grain within the Grain From Ukraine program, established in 2022 by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to “help overcome the humanitarian and economic consequences of the global food crisis caused by Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.”
