UKRAINE, ODESA, Jul. 20 — On Jul. 19, Russian forces attacked a civilian ship in the Black Sea near Odesa, a city located south of Ukraine, said the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.
The Ukrainian Navy said that the Russians launched three Kh-59 missiles at the civilian ship. The missiles hit the right side of the ship, causing a fire on board.
The attack killed five people immediately, and rescuers were searching for five more. The search-and-rescue operation continued throughout the night. But in the morning, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported about 10 people killed, including a Ukrainian marine pilot.
Rescue workers transported eight people to a hospital in Odesa.
A civilian trade ship was leaving a Ukrainian port after loading corn, carrying the flag of Guinea-Bissau, a country in West Africa. The crew included citizens of Syria and India, as well as a Ukrainian marine pilot.
