UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Jun. 2 — Today, Russia launched more than 20 kamikaze drones and two ballistic missiles at Kharkiv, injuring at least 22 people. One of the strike sites hit near an apartment building in Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi district.
Gwara journalists visited the impact site to document the aftermath of the Russian attack.
Olena lives near the site of the overnight strike in Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi district. She said she heard the sound of a drone, quickly grabbed her children, and hid with them in the corridor. The family stayed there until morning.
According to Olena, this was not the first Russian strike near her home. Earlier this spring, another attack damaged the balcony of her apartment.
Svitlana, another local from the Slobidskyi district, said the explosion felt very powerful, even though she lives just a few buildings away from the impact site.
“Even our building was shaking. There have already been attacks here in previous years. (They) hit about 50 meters (164 feet) from us. Something is constantly flying here,” Svitlana said.
In total, Russia injured 22 people, including an 11-year-old girl. The city’s authorities recorded strikes on Kharkiv’s Nemyshlianskyi, Osnovianskyi, Slobidskyi, and Kyivskyi districts.
In the morning of Jun. 2, Russian forces attacked the city again. The Slobidskyi, Kholodnohirskyi, Saltivskyi, Osnovianskyi, and Kyivskyi districts came under fire. In this attack Russia injured two men aged 30 and 51, and a 50-year-old woman.
