UKRAINE, Nov. 4 — Emergency power outages are currently ongoing in the Kharkiv region because of continued Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Artem Nekrasov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, said.
Russia has continued to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since last night, hitting power generation facilities where electricity is produced and substations through which it is transmitted to consumers, Nekrasov added.
As of now, most regions of Ukraine are supplying electricity to consumers following hourly power outage schedules, plus there are limits on power consumption for businesses.
In addition to the Kharkiv oblast, Russian attacks have left consumers without power in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, and Kherson regions.
Also, Nekrasov said that the situation remains difficult in Kyiv and the region. The Kyiv City Council announced that electric public transportation has been suspended because of power shortage in the network.
Ukrainian nuclear power plants have been forced to reduce their power output because of the consequences of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, he added.
Yesterday, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported a massive attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Russia claimed it hit the Kharkiv thermal power plant, the Zmiivska substation, and the Losevo substation in the Kharkiv oblast. During that night, monitoring channels in Kharkiv also wrote about airstrikes on the former. Within that series of attacks, Russian troops also targeted a medical center in the Nemyshlianskyi district of the city.
Ukrainian officials didn’t specify that certain energy facilities have been attacked in Ukraine, including in the Kharkiv oblast.
