UKRAINE, Aug 30 — EU Chief Diplomat Josep Borrell said that the European Union had prepared about 700,000 artillery shells for Ukraine out of the promised one million.

In January 2024, before an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds said that Ukraine will receive one million shells from the EU over the next few months. Ukraine did not receive one million shells from the EU in March.

“We are now at the level of approximately 700,000 155-mm shells. We are not yet at the target, but the West is increasing its capabilities,” he said.

The EU’s top diplomat emphasized that the EU will continue to support Ukraine and envisages “the possibility of targeting the territory of Russia.”

At the same time, Borrell stated that the European Union does not want to go to war with Russia, but only to help Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

He also added that sending military instructors to Ukraine is not on the agenda. He also said that discussions are underway about creating a coordination center in Ukraine.
