UKRAINE, Oct. 19 — Overnight, Russia attacked Ukraine with ballistic missiles and 269 drones, killing at least one 21–year–old woman and injuring two people in Kyiv. Alex Raufoglu, a journalist at Radio Free Europe/Liberty, reported that this was another Russian attack in which the United States hadn’t warned Ukraine about the impending strike on the capital.
On Oct. 18, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, said that the US had resumed intelligence sharing with Ukraine after it was blocked for “some period of time,” reported Bloomberg.
Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, said that he didn’t know that Kyiv hadn’t gotten early warning about the Russian attack.
“What happened last night, I don’t know for sure. I know that a few nights ago, there was an issue with the software related to their early warning system,” Rubio said.
On Oct. 13, Zelenskyy said that the US didn’t warn Ukraine about the ballistic attack on Kyiv, while Yurii Ihnat, the spokesperson of the Air Forces of Ukraine, reported that Ukraine hadn’t received warning ahead of the first of four waves of attacks.
Today, Rubio denied that intelligence sharing was suspended. When asked about Ukrainian claims that Washington had withheld intelligence, he said: “There has been no pause.” He also said that Zelenskyy should focus on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
