UKARINE, ZAPORIZHIA OBLAST, Aug. 24 — Ukrainian soldiers showed footages of destroying Russian Spirit-030 satellite terminal on Huliapole axis, reported the press service of 1st Separate Assault Regiment named after Dmytro Kotsiubailo, also known by his call sign Da Vinci.
Spirit-030 is a rare equivalent of the American Starlink satellite. The Russian satellite internet terminal has an antenna of just 30 cm (~11.8 inches) in diameter, making it difficult to detect.
The Regiment’s press service said that Spirit-030 was destroyed with an FPV drone.
Ukrainian soldiers recorded the first usages of this Starlink alternative this spring, shortly after Ukrainian Defense Ministry and Elon Musk started working on preventing Russia from accessing terminals.
On Aug. 10, Vadym Skybitskyi, a major general in Ukrainian military intelligence, said that Russia launched the Rassvet (Dawn in Eng.) satellite system, another alternative to Starlink. He also added that Russia was developing the system much faster than originally planned.
