UKRAINE, Aug. 24 — On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Kyiv returned 10 Ukrainian soldiers who were earlier considered missing in action from the Russian captivity, reported Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine. 

On Jun. 26, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had returned 1596 Ukrainian soldiers since the beginning of 2026. 

Ukraine’s President said that among those who returned today are soldiers from the National Guard and Armed Forces of Ukraine. All of them fought on the Donetsk axis. 

Two returned soldiers have been considered as missing in action since 2024, while others have been missing since 2025, said the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Headquarters representatives added that returned soldiers will receive government support and undergo medical treatment, followed by rehabilitation.
