UPD from 5:17 p.m., Oct. 2: the latest updates from officials said that the number of injured people increased to 28.

UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Oct. 2 — In the afternoon, Russian forces attacked Slobidskyi and Nemyshlianskyi districts of Kharkiv with glide bombs, hitting a residential area and killing at least two people and injuring 28, Oleh Syniehubov, the governor, said.

According to Ihor Terekhov, Kharkiv’s mayor, one of the bombs directly hit a house in the Nemyshlianskyi district, killing one person.

The attack destroyed it completely — at 3:43 p.m., Terekhov said a person might be trapped under the rubble there. In about an hour, he reported a body of another killed person was found — it’s unclear if that was the person that was under the debris.

Oleh Syniehubov said there is a child among the injured. Another injured man, aged 48, is currently in surgery, and doctors are trying to save his life, Syniehubov added.

The governor also said that Russian attacks damaged around 10 houses, offices, an education institution, and six cars in the Slobidskyi district and over 10 houses in the Nemyshlianskyi district. Municipal services and rescue workers continue to sort out the debris at the impact sites.
