UKRAINE, MEREFA, Mar 18 — On the night of March 17, Russian troops launched a drone strike at AES Group’s oil processing plant in Merefa, a city near Kharkiv, wrote Economichna Pravda, Ukrainian media, referring to the company’s report sent to them.
Company representatives say that Russians launched around 20 drones, and the attacks lasted for several hours. According to authorities in Kharkiv Oblast, the attack injured a 59-year-old security guard who had been at the site at the moment of the strike.
AES Group says the attack was fatal for the plant. It was the fourth time Russian troops targeted it during the full-scale war.
“Before [the strikes], the plant worked at 10% capacity, but after the last attack, it was completely destroyed. Practically, we’re talking about beginning to file for bankruptcy,” wrote AES Group. “We can only hope for an international court, but, in the current political situation, the chances of [reaching] justice are not high.”
Preliminary investigation showed Russians used Geran-2 drones to attack the plant.
