UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Jun. 4 — Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russian attacks killed 113 children in the Kharkiv oblast, said Valeriia Chyrina, spokesperson for the regional Prosecutor’s office, to journalists.
On Jun. 4, there is an International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. In Ukraine, since 2021, this day has been recognized as a day to honor the memory of children who lost their lives as a result of the Russian aggression.
According to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s ombudsman, Russian attacks killed 707 and injured 2,548 Ukrainian children. Another 2,318 children are considered missing.
“The youngest child was only two days old. This child was born and died at the maternity hospital,” said Lubinets.
Ukraine’s ombudsman said that these numbers might be higher because there is no information about children in the occupied territories. Also, thousands of Ukrainian children were deported to Russia or forcibly displaced.
