UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Jul. 23 — Kharkiv oblast remains among regions with the highest mortality rates in Ukraine. For every newborn, there are six deaths, reported OpenDataBot, a company that provides access to the registration data of Ukrainian companies and the court register.
According to the research, in the first half of 2026, the birth rate in Ukraine fell by 16% compared to last year.
The Kharkiv oblast ranked among the regions with the highest number of deaths — 34,670 cases. At the same time, the oblast ranked among the lowest in terms of births.
OpenDataBot said that a general decrease in the birth rate in Ukraine, the consequences of a full-scale war, and demographic changes are the reasons behind these statistics.
Researchers have recorded the worst birth-to-death ratios in Donetsk Oblast (1 to 19) and Kherson Oblast (1 to 14).
