The total area of Ukraine’s territories currently subject to surveys to identify dangerous areas is approximately 174,000 km². This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in response to a request for access to public information from Gwara Media.

This is more than the area of Greece (131,000 km²) or Bulgaria (about 111,000 km²), or almost the territory of two countries such as Austria (84,000 km²).

About 14,000 km² are the waters of Ukraine’s rivers, reservoirs and water storage facilities, as well as the coastal waters of the Azov and Black Seas.

The current priority is to clear explosive ordnance from settlements, transportation routes, public lands, critical infrastructure, power lines and public life support systems in the de-occupied territories of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Donetsk regions.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the demining units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have found and defused over 746,000 explosive devices throughout Ukraine, surveying an area of about 163,500 hectares/1635 km². This is approximately 0.94% of the estimated area to be surveyed.

In Kharkiv Oblast, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, as of December 7, 7,605 hectares of territory have been surveyed, and 94,957 explosive devices have been found and defused.
