UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Oct 14 — In one week in the Kharkiv region, pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service (SES) seized and neutralized 571 Russian munitions, announced Artem Astakhov, the head of the SES in Kharkiv region, at a briefing, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reports.
Kharkiv Oblast is one of the most heavily mined regions. More than 570,000 hectares of land in the Kharkiv region need to be inspected for mines and explosive devices after the Russian occupation.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, explosive experts seized and defused 103,561 explosive devices in the region.
In addition, according to Astakhov, on October 12, two men in Derhachi tried to disassemble a munition, and both received shrapnel wounds. The 77-year-old victim died as a result of his injuries on October 13, and the 41-year-old victim is in intensive care with severe injuries.
Also, during the week, there were 323 natural ecosystem fires in the region, including 14 forest fires. The fire destroyed 167 hectares of territory, five residential buildings, and outbuildings. The Russian shelling caused 12 ecosystem fires, destroying seven hectares of grass.
Currently, 39 pyrotechnic teams and 213 sappers work in the Kharkiv region, using 98 pieces of equipment, including 12 mechanized demining machines.
