The Russian military has intensified its offensive in the Kupiansk sector and is using the tactics of so-called “meat assaults.” Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Shevtsov, head of the press service of the Stalevyi Kordon assault brigade, said it on Radio Free Liberty.

According to him, during one such attack, from 50 to 100 Russian soldiers are engaged in the offensive.

“The situation here is quite tense, but controlled. The enemy has intensified its actions in the direction of Ivanivka, Synkivka and from the Makiivka direction. And now they are conducting so-called “meat” assaults. The adversary is not sparing any personnel or equipment, and is launching an assault. For instance, one (one assault – ed.) is 50 to a hundred people trying to break through the defense, but they fail. In addition, they use equipment that is also on fire,” Shevtsov says.

He notes that the goal of the Russian military in this part of the front is to capture Kupyansk, the village of Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi, and reach the left bank of the Oskil River.

“They [Russians – ed.] want to reach the Oskil River now, despite favorable weather conditions, as long as the equipment can pass. They want to reach the left bank of the Oskil River. And Kupyansk and Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi are important destinations for them because there is a railway junction there and these are strategic objects for them,” said the head of the press service of the Steel Frontier assault brigade.

According to Shevtsov, the Stalevyi Kordon (Steel Border) brigade has not lost a single position. As for the Russian units currently fighting in the Kupyansk sector, in addition to the Storm units formed of former Russian prisoners, there are also the 1st and 25th Armies of the Russian Federation, and the Steel Frontier Brigade has not yet encountered any Wagnerians.

“Here, our border guards do not have the opportunity to capture any of the former members of the Wagner PMC. But we have reliable information that, in addition to Storm-Z and Storm units, they also use units of the Bars combat army reserve. Also, opposite our units is the 1st Tank Army, the 25th Army of the Russian Federation. This is a sufficient number of personnel. The 25th Army alone is about 25 thousand personnel,” he noted.
