Russian army continued the offensive along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line on October 10 and reportedly advanced in some areas, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The main goal of Russia in this part of the frontline is to capture the rest of Luhansk region and advance to the east of Kharkiv and the north of Donetsk region.

The Institute cites the Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces fought off Russian attacks in the Kupyansk direction near Synkivka (8km northeast of Kupyansk) and Ivanivka (20km southeast of Kupyansk) and southwest of Svatove near Makiivka (20km southwest).

Analysts, citing Russian military bloggers, note that Russian troops have deployed “powerful armored groups” to launch large-scale offensive operations near Synkivka, Ivanivka, and Makiivka, and another mil blogger claimed that Russian forces captured several Ukrainian positions near Synkivka.

“Russian sources claimed that elements of the 6th Combined Arms Army (Western Military District) are deployed in the Kupyansk direction, while elements of the newly formed 25th Combined Arms Army are attacking Ukrainian positions near Makiivka. Another prominent Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces have nearly reached the eastern outskirts of Makiivka and advanced along the entire Novovodyane-Ploshchanka line (about 20km northwest of Kreminna),” ISW added.

lya Yevlash, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Eastern Group of Forces, observed that Russian forces have been growing their deployment of motorized rifle units, tank battalions, and “Storm-Z” assault companies along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna frontline. Additionally, they are employing inadequately trained “Storm-Z” personnel for reconnaissance and mine-detection missions.
