UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Oct. 20 — Russian forces remain active in the air over the northeastern part of the Kharkiv oblast, Ihor Romanenko, the head of the press service of the 3rd Heavy Mechanized Brigade, told Army TV.
Romanenko said that in a month, the brigade used electronic warfare (EW) systems to jam nearly 1,000 Russian drones. At the same time, the brigade’s air defense shot down up to 380 drones on average.
“The hit rate is 70–80%. Whatever we detect, we shoot down,” he said.
According to Romanenko, the Russians are launching assaults, including airstrikes, within the brigade’s defense zone — near Milove, Ambarne, Bolohivka, Dvorichanske, Krasne Pershe, and Kolodiazne settlements in northeastern Kharkiv oblast.
The Institute for the Study of War said that Russian forces’ aim in this area is to push Ukrainian forces back from the international border to create a defensible buffer zone with Belgorod oblast and approach Kharkiv.
