KHARKIV, UKRAINE, Feb 29 — The Security Service of Ukraine detained a resident of Kharkiv suspected of working for Russian special services.
She is charged with high treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), reported SBU spokesman Vladyslav Abdula.
According to the investigation, the woman checked the coordinates of missile targets sent by Russian representatives. She took photos of the objects during the exploration and marked them on Google Maps. The suspect then sent the information via messenger.
“According to the investigation, in texting with the enemy [Russian representatives], the agent called for more frequent shelling of Kharkiv to cause maximum damage to the city. She also hoped to capture the regional center and “annex” it to Russia,” the statement said.
Law enforcers said that a representative of Russian intelligence remotely recruited the unemployed Kharkiv resident in late 2023.
The SBU believes that the suspect cooperated with the Russians because she hoped to get a job in the Russian occupation administration in case of the capture of Kharkiv.
Law enforcement officers detained the woman. During the searches, they found a phone with evidence of intelligence activities. She faces life imprisonment.
