(Updated) Russian Missile Attack on Kharkiv, in Photos: At Least 47 Injured, One Dead

UPDATE: KHARKIV, UKRAINE, JAN 3 — Police reported that the number of people injured in the Russian missile attack on January 2 increased to 63 (six among them are children). According to the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, Oleh Syniehubov, 26 people are hospitalized; two have severe injuries. 

JAN 2 — Four explosions in the morning shook Kharkiv. Russian missile strikes injured 47 people (among them — five kids) and killed one. 

The first explosion was heard at 7:30 AM, the second at 7:37 AM, the third at 7:41 AM, and the fourth at 7:56 AM. Volodymyr Tymoshko, the head of the National Police in Kharkiv Oblast, four hit sites in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city have been documented.

Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terehov reported that the Russian Federation hit Kharkiv with Kinzhals (hypersonic air-launched ballistic missiles — ed). The head of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Oleksandr Filchakov, said that the city was hit with Iskanders.

Later, Volodymyr Tymoshko commented, “It’s likely that [missiles] were Iskander-K or Kinzhal missiles. Kinzhal derives from Iskander — it was created as an improvement of Iskander. We’re investigating the situation further.”

The emergency services and other structures are working at the hit sites. All fires were put out.

Right now, we know about one dead woman and 47 injured people. There are five kids injured: three boys of nine years and six- and 13-year-old girls. Children have shrapnel injuries, bruises, concussions, and severe stress responses. 

Women aged 19-84 years old and men aged 24-60 years old were injured as well.

Thirty-eight people are right now in Kharkiv’s hospitals; among them, four people with light injuries and three people in severe condition. One woman is in a coma.

As of 10:00 AM, there is information about 33 residential buildings in the Shevchenkivskyi district damaged in this Russian attack. About 170 windows are shattered in civilian flats and public places; two rooftops are damaged. Kharkiv city council reported on this.
