KHARKIV OBLAST, Mar 7 — On the territory of one of the utilities in Kharkiv, with the financial support of international and Ukrainian charitable organizations, the Valky community has built an apartment complex for temporary residence of the displaced people from the Kharkiv Oblast, announced the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov.

Currently, almost 70 residents of the Kharkiv Oblast live in the complex, including nine children. There are bedrooms, a kitchen with all the necessary appliances, and recreation areas.

The press service of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported that the largest number of internally displaced people is registered in the Kharkiv Oblast — almost 530,000, including 23,000 people in the Valky community.

Other cities in the oblast with the highest number of internally displaced people include Liubotyn (14,401), Lozova (13,103), Merefa (11,875), Chuhuiv (10,888), Pervomaiskyi (8,868), Izium (7,330), and Kupiansk (2,018).

Internally displaced people in Kharkiv

Currently, more than 190,000 IDPs live in the city, most of them from settlements of the Kharkiv Oblast.

Although the Kharkiv mayor, Ihor Terekhov, has repeatedly claimed Kharkiv has sheltered approximately 500,000 IDPs, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration refuted this information in its response to Gwara’s media request. As of the beginning of December 2023, there are 20,134 Kharkiv residents officially registered as internally displaced people in Kharkiv, reported the Ministry of Social Policy.
