From May 1 to 19, Liverpool Cathedral hosts Izyum to Liverpool exhibition by Ukrainian artist Katya Buchatska. The multi-channel installation was created for EuroFestival 2023.

The installation produced in partnership with Liverpool Cathedral and Ukrainian Railways consists of 12 video screens capturing the Ukrainian landscape in the real-time mode of rail service in both directions along the route Izium—Kharkiv—Poltava—Myrhorod—Lubny—Kyiv—Fastiv—Kozyatyn—Vynnytsia—Khmelnytskyi—Ternopil—Krasne—Lviv—the Ukrainian-Polish border.

This way, the artwork shows the Ukrainian landscape as seen by the displaced people fleeing the full-scale war to the western Ukrainian oblasts and other countries to save their lives from Russian missiles. Many of these people will never return home.

In a comment to BBC, Buchashka said that she created this installation to remind people about the war in Ukraine and that the Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in Liverpool precisely because of the war.

“Eurovision is here because of the war. My installation and me, I am here because of the war.”

Earlier, the Kharkiv art gallery held a photo exhibition dedicated to wives of fallen heroes.
