KHARKIV OBLAST, UKRAINE, Apr 19 — Law enforcement neutralized an agent group that planned to transfer Ukrainian energy technology developments to the Russians, reported the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, the suspects, under the supervision of the Russian Federation, collected schemes, drawings, and instructions for manufacturing steam turbines and components from a strategically important enterprise in the Kharkiv region.
“The organizer of the agent group was a Kharkiv businessman. He involved other people in criminal activities, including the head of the design bureau and the deputy head of the industrial enterprise’s workshop,” the Prosecutor’s Office statement said.
They digitized all the documents collected by the agents and kept them in digital format to pass on to Russians.
According to law enforcement officers, the Russians needed this data to construct and operate Hydroelectric Power Plants, Nuclear Power Plants, and Thermal Power Plants, which produce electricity. The documents were necessary for the uninterrupted functioning of the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation.
“During a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, this [use of data on energy technology developments] would provide an opportunity to increase and develop the capacities of the Russian Federation for the production of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and other means of mass destruction. As well as for repairing and constructing military equipment, electronic warfare equipment, and unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.
Law enforcement officers found various currencies worth more than $125,000 belonging to the organizer of the agent network. The man probably received this money for working for Russia. The suspects are in custody without the right to be released on bail.
