KHARKIV OBLAST, UKRAINE, May 20 — Russian army lost 261 Russian troops in the Kharkiv direction over the past day. The Defense Forces are currently repelling a Russian attack near the village of Starytsia, reported the General Staff.

“The situation is under control. In addition, our units strengthened their defensive lines and positions in certain areas,” the statement said.

On May 10, Russia launched a new ground offensive north and northeast of the Kharkiv region. The border communities came under heavy Russian bombardment and artillery shelling. 

Since the beginning of the day, the situation on the frontline has deteriorated. The Russian troops fired 533 times at the positions of Ukrainian forces and used more than 50 kamikaze drones, military reports.  

The General Staff said the Ukrainian military destroyed 40 pieces of Russian equipment and weapons in the Kharkiv direction over the past day. Ukrainian troops destroyed one tank, an artillery system, eight vehicles and special equipment units, and 13 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). In addition, they damaged two tanks, one armored combat vehicle, eight artillery systems, and six vehicles.

In the Kupiansk direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled an attack by Russian troops near Synkivka. Also, Ukrainian troops are conducting assault operations in some areas of Kupiansk direction.

In total, Russian losses amounted to about 1,400 people over the past day. Ukrainian troops also destroyed or damaged 14 tanks, 35 armored combat vehicles, 50 artillery systems, two multiple launch rocket systems, four air defense systems, 81 operational and tactical UAVs, a missile, one ship, 60 vehicles, and two special equipment units.
