Feb 18 — The government of Finland plans to allocate up to €2 million for the energy sector in the Kharkiv Oblast, Kharkiv region military administration reported.
“Russia continues to attack the territory of our region, hitting civilian infrastructure and energy objects,” Oleh Syniehubov, Kharkiv Oblast governor, said. “One of the main tasks of our administration is decentralizing heating systems [in the city] and energy supply to the region’s population.”
Russian attacks on Kharkiv’s energy facilities in March 2024 destroyed almost the entire power and heating infrastructure supplying Kharkiv and its region.
According to officials, currently, the Kharkiv Oblast needs 40 modular boiler houses, over 90 cogeneration units, and over 100 high-capacity generators.
In December 2024, the EU provided the city with six cogeneration units.
Overall, in 2024, the Kharkiv region received $434.78 million from the Ukrainian government and international partners to rebuild the power grid, build shelters in schools, kindergartens, and hospitals, and repair residential buildings.
