UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Dec. 23 — American businessman and philanthropist Howard Buffet visited the outskirts of Kupiansk together with a Bilyi Yangol (White Angel in eng.) police special unit, which is evacuating civilians from frontline areas, reported Kharkiv regional police.
Police added that Buffet joined the evacuation operations with Bilyi Yangol.
Earlier, Howard Buffett’s foundation donated armored vehicles to Bilyi Yangol. They evacuated over 200 civilians from endangered settlements in the region.
Russian forces intensified its offensive on Kupiansk in summer 2025, attempting to occupy the city and seize Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, an important logistics hub on the left bank of Oskil River. Currently, Ukrainian soldiers are continuing to push Russian troops out of the city.
Nearly 100 Russian soldiers are remaining in Kupiansk, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson of the military group responsible for Kharkiv oblast.
Howard Buffett has also contributed to the restoration of facilities destroyed by Russian strikes, including one of the key centers of Ukrainian book publishing — the Factor-Druk printing house, which was damaged by a missile attack in May 2024.
