UKRAINE, Oct 2 — Between June 1 and August 31, the Russian aggression against Ukraine killed 589 civilians and injured 2,685 others. This is 45% more than in the spring, the UN reported.

Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine has caused widespread death and destruction. Russian forces have attacked both military and civilian targets, leading to thousands of casualties.

According to a UN report, the Russian attacks made July 2024 the “deadliest month for civilians.” There were the highest number of civilian deaths since October 2022.

“The main reason for the high number of civilian casualties in July was a large-scale coordinated attack involving dozens of missiles launched by the Russian Federation at targets across Ukraine on July 8,” the UN said.

In addition, between June 1 and August 31, the Russian armed forces carried out at least four waves of attack of energy facilities across Ukraine, and up to five waves of such attacks occurred during the spring.

In total, according to UN estimates, the Russian military has killed 11,743 people in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. 24,614 civilians have been injured.
