UKRAINE, Aug 19 — As a result of repatriation efforts, Ukraine brought back the bodies of another 1,000 dead Ukrainians. According to the Russian side, the bodies belong to Ukrainian military personnel, reported the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

In June, the Missing Persons Commissioner said that Ukraine returned more than 10,000 bodies of fallen Ukrainians during 2025. This number is more than 65% of all returned human remains for the entirety of the full-scale Russia-Ukraine war.

The Coordination Headquarters said that among those repatriated are the bodies of five Ukrainian soldiers who died in captivity.

They were on the lists of “seriously wounded and seriously ill” prisoners to be exchanged by the agreements reached in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations on June 2.

“The Russian side continues to delay and fails in its responsibilities. Ukraine insists on the immediate release of all seriously ill and severely wounded prisoners and is fighting for the return of all Ukrainian citizens,” said the Coordination Headquarters.

Among those returned today are also defenders from the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kursk directions.

On August 19, the prosecutors brought to court the case of a Russian soldier involved in the shooting of Ukrainian soldiers at the Vovchansk aggregate plant in the Kharkiv region.
