UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Nov 8 – Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, the Russian army has damaged more than 700 power substations, 4,000 overhead lines of all voltage classes, 236 buildings, and 200 vehicles in Kharkiv region, said Viacheslav Kravtsov, head of Kharkivoblenergo [local power operator — ed.]

In the spring of 2024, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian energy facilities with missiles and drone strikes. On May 8, the Prime Minister reported that they had destroyed or damaged 800 heating facilities in the country. In particular, the March attacks destroyed the power and heating infrastructure supplying Kharkiv and its region.

Currently, 129 settlements and 47 thousand houses in the border communities are without electricity in the region.

“Every day, 50 brigades work to repair the region’s energy sector. We have restored about 90% of the networks in 400 settlements. About two miles of power lines have been cleared of mines, and more than four miles of power lines in 16 territorial communities of the region need to be cleared of explosive devices,” he said.

Viacheslav Kravtsov said that the scheduled repairs of buildings and equipment and maintenance and clearing of overhead lines in preparation for the autumn-winter heating season in the region have been completed by 97%.

The press service of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported that the Bohodukhiv, Chuhuiv, Kupiansk, and Izium districts have received humanitarian aid from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
