UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, June 28 — The Russian army shelled the village of Varvarivka in the Kharkiv region, killing a 56-year-old resident, reported the police of the Kharkiv region.
Towns and villages of the Kharkiv Oblast come under massive Russian artillery shelling and airstrikes often, even more so since Russia launched a new ground offensive north and northeast of the region in the Vovchansk and Lyptsi directions in May.
“The woman was in her garden when she came under Russian fire. She died at the impact site from her injuries,” the police reported.
The village of Varvarivka, with a population of over 700 people [before the full-scale invasion — ed], is located in the Vovchansk community of the Chuhuiv district of the Kharkiv region. The situation in this area remains one of the most difficult in the Kharkiv region.
Oleh Synenubov, Kharkiv Oblast Governor, said on Ukrainian TV on June 27 that over the past month, more than 12,000 residents of the frontline towns of Vovchansk, Kupiansk, and Lyptsi districts have been evacuated due to the Russian shelling.
