UKRAINE, SLATYNE, Oct. 24 — On Oct. 23, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., Russian troops hit Slatyne of Derhachi community, located northwest of Kharkiv, with three fiber optic drones, reported Viacheslav Zadorenko, head of the community.
“Currently, drones like that are a very serious threat for borderlands, which is why I urge the citizens to be vigilant and not to move between settlements without pressing need,” said Zadorenko.
Slatyne is a village located ~17 km (10.5 miles) from the outskirts of Kharkiv and 15 km (9.3 miles) from the border with Russia. It has often been a target of Russian airstrikes, like all northern territories of the Kharkiv region.
On Oct. 23, a Russian FPV hit a tractor in the Slobozhanske village in Lyptsi community, also north of Kharkiv, killing a driver.
Fiber optic drones are impossible to jam through electronic warfare systems, as they use the cable to transmit a signal to and from the drone.
