UKRAINE, June 26 — The first shipment of ammunition under the Czech initiative to purchase shells has arrived in Ukraine, announced Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala on June 25. Petr Fiala did not specify the exact number of shells that came in Ukraine.

The Czech initiative started in February, during a month-long delay in the U.S. military aid to Ukraine that partially caused shell shortages for Ukrainian troops. Petr Pavel, Czech President, said that he had found 800,000 shells in countries outside the EU and NATO, including 122mm and 155mm caliber shells, which could be supplied to Ukraine.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said that as part of the initiative to purchase artillery ammunition, Ukraine may receive 1.5 million shells.

In total, 20 countries have joined the Czech initiative and are funding the purchase of the shells. Five countries have already made their contributions, so some of the purchase agreements have already been signed. These include money from Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal, and Canada.
