UKRAINE, Oct 9 — In September-October of this year, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) polled Ukraine’s ability to succeed in the war with Russia if the West provides the necessary support.

81% of respondents said they believed that Ukraine is capable of “inflicting significant setbacks to Russia and achieving acceptable results” in the war with the support of the West, reported the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

On September 26, the US announced new defense aid to Ukraine totaling $7.9 billion. It also includes the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia. The package consists of an additional Patriot air defense system battery, other air defense equipment and interceptors, drones, long-range missiles, air-to-ground munitions, and funds to strengthen Ukraine’s defense industry.

14% of Ukrainians, according to KIIS’ poll, believe that Russia is “too strong a state” and that Ukraine will not be able to “inflict significant setbacks” to Russia and achieve an “acceptable result” in this war, even with the support of the West.

Also, 6% of respondents could not decide on the answer.

At the same time, as of September 2024, 38% of Ukrainians believe that the West is getting tired of Ukraine and wants Ukraine to make concessions to Russia. 54% of Ukrainians currently believe that the West wants the war to end on “acceptable terms” for Ukraine and “seriously help to the extent possible.”

For comparison, in September 2022, only 15% of Ukrainians said that the West was tired of Ukraine and wanted an unfair peace while 73% believed the West wanted the war to end on terms acceptable to Ukraine.
