UKRAINE, Dec 12 – In 2024, Russians shot 109 Ukrainian soldiers who were in captivity, announced the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, on Ukrainain TV.
Dmytro Lubinets said that during the previous years of the full-scale invasion [2022 and 2023 — ed.], they recorded 177 cases of Russian troops killing Ukrainian soldiers, which is less compared to 2024.
“We received information that Russians often violate the rights of prisoners of war through our intelligence law enforcement agencies. Unfortunately, I could not publicly show these cases,” he said.
On November 21, Dmytro Lubinets said that as of November 2024, 3,767 Ukrainian citizens have been released from captivity since the beginning of the war, including those who were taken into captivity since 2014. This figure includes 168 civilians, and all others are military. He also said that 95% of all prisoners of war are tortured in captivity.
