UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Oct 1 — In September, Russians carried out a record number of airstrikes on Kharkiv since the beginning of 2023. There were 53 attacks in the city, announced Mayor Ihor Terekhov. 

The Russian army attacks Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, often because it’s close to the border and the frontline. Their attacks intensified significantly since Moscow launched a new ground offensive north of the Kharkiv region in May. 

According to the mayor, over the past month, 188 people have been affected by Russian attacks in Kharkiv, including 19 children. 

Ihor Terekhov said that 227 air raid alarms sounded in the city, with a total duration of 296 hours and 32 minutes, which is almost 12 days.

Also, the total duration of air raid alerts with the threat of attack on the city was 108 hours and nine minutes. 

During September, Russians attacked Kharkiv eight times with Iskander-M missiles, one with KN-23 missiles, three with S-400 missiles, 27 times with FAB-250 glide bombs, 11 with FAB-500 glide bombs, two times with Geranium-2 unmanned aerial vehicles, and one time, using Tornado-S multiple rocket launcher.
