UKRAINE, Aug 12 — Russia makes gains on the Kupiansk axis, advancing west of Novoselivske, reports the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in their latest assessment published on August 11.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russia’s aim is to capture the rest of Luhansk Oblast and push into Kharkiv and Donetsk Oblasts. In Kharkiv Oblast, their primary target is Kupiansk, a logistics hub for the region and a city that Russia occupied in 2022.
Analysts write that, on August 10 and 11, during offensive operations along the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, Russia made advances west of Novoselivske, a settlement in Luhansk Oblast southeast of Kupuiansk.
The ISW didn’t report any changes to the frontline north of the Kharkiv region, where active fighting continues near Hlyboke and Vovchansk.
The think tank also notes that Ukraine’s recent incursion in the Russian Kursk Oblast allowed Kyiv to “at least temporarily seize the battlefield initiative in one area of the frontline and contest Russia’s theater-wide initiative.”
As of now, Russia conducts offensive operations in multiple directions across the frontline, the hottest of which is its successful efforts to advance toward Pokrovsk, one of the major cities in the Donetsk region.
