UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Oct 9 — At about 5:00 p.m. on October 8, Russians dropped an FAB-250 bomb near a residential high-rise building in Kharkiv. The bomb fell in a park area, killing a 70-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman and injuring five people, said Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast.
According to the mayor, Ihor Terekhov, the Russian bomb attack damaged 15 apartment buildings in the Saltivskyi district.
“We hid in the flat’s anteroom [from Ukrainian “тамбур,” a room separating doors to the flats from the entrance’s staircase in a multi-story building — ed.]. It was very loud [because of explosions], everything was crumbling, and windows were smashed. We pulled ourselves together quickly and ran outside. We were afraid there would be a fire,” said Andrii, a resident of the damaged high-rise.
“I saw a message that the KABs were dropping, and my children and I went to the flat’s anteroom. Before we could hide, there was an explosion. We fell to the floor. The children are fine, but they were very scared,” said another resident of the damaged building.
Earlier on the same day, Oleh Syniehubov reported that at about 10:40 a.m., Russians launched an air attack on Kharkiv, damaging a civilian facility and injuring 28 people, including a 16-year-old boy.
The Russian army often attacks Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, because it’s close to the border and the frontline. Their attacks intensified significantly since Moscow launched a new ground offensive north of the Kharkiv region in May.
