UKRAINE, KHARKIV, May 30 — Around 2:00 a.m., Russian troops conducted a missile attack on Kharkiv, injuring seven people, reported the Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov.
The strike damaged residential buildings in the Nemyshlianskyi and Slobidskyi districts of the city and a two-story building of a municipal enterprise.
Russia attacks Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city 19 miles from the state border, and its suburbs frequently — even more so since the beginning of their new ground offensive from north and northeast of the Kharkiv region on May 10.
According to Syniehubov, the Russian attack partially destroyed the administrative building of one of the municipal enterprises. It caught on fire in the aftermath.
The Russian attack also damaged the building of the Kharkiv State Biotechnology University, the university’s head’s office told Gwara Media.
Russian strikes destroyed the educational and chemical department, the dormitory of the faculty of veterinary medicine, the sports and equestrian complex, and damaged the farm buildings.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that Russian troops also hit a critical infrastructure facility, causing damage to the gas pipeline.
“23 residential buildings located nearby were also damaged. The emergency services have been working to clean up the aftermath of the attack since 5:00 a.m,” Terekhov said.
Oksana is one of the eyewitnesses of the Russian missile strike. She lives not far from the impact site.
“At 2 a.m., we woke up to an explosion, and glass fell on me. We all ran out into the hallway and stayed there,” she says. Oksana adds that no one in her house was injured during the strike.
According to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, three people sought medical assistance: a 17-year-old girl, a 66-year-old man, and a 64-year-old woman.
There is information that the Russians launched the attack with an S-300 missile from the territory of Belgorod region.
In total, Russia has attacked Kharkiv with missiles, glider bombs, or drone strikes 1,700 times since January 2024, Oleh Syniehubov told Ukrainska Pravda, in an interview published on May 25. 230 of them were missile attacks.
