KHARKIV, UKRAINE, March 26 – Specialists are working around the clock at the sites of the March 22 missile strikes on the region’s energy system. Restoring energy infrastructure in Kharkiv Oblast is a task that will take more than a few weeks or even months. Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military District Administration, said.

Kharkiv region is trying to engage specialists from other regions of Ukraine to restore the system as soon as possible.

On March 24, Kharkivoblenergo started applying emergency shutdown schedules, said Volodymyr Skichko, a spokesman for the company. He noted that the schedules are currently being adjusted, given the problematic situation in the power grids of Kharkiv region. Later, the company published schedules of power outages in Kharkiv and districts of the region.

The Kharkiv RMA head, Oleh Syniehubov, said up to 200,000 consumers are without power in Kharkiv. Power engineers continue to work to eliminate the consequences of the shelling. The head of the Ministry of Energy, Herman Galushchenko, also noted that to speed up the work, power brigades from other regions have been sent to the region.

On the morning of March 25, the Kharkiv subway was reopened. The train run time is 20 minutes and all stations are open.

As a reminder, on the night of March 22, Russians struck at the critical infrastructure of Kharkiv. As a result of the shelling, the city lost power supply, and there were water supply and heating interruptions. Due to the power outage, public transport (subway, tram and trolleybus) and traffic lights were not working.

After the massive Russian shelling on March 22, which damaged the energy infrastructure, power supply has been restored almost everywhere. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in his video statement.

“We continue to eliminate the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack that took place on Friday. People have been working almost continuously for the second day. At this time, normal power supply has been restored almost everywhere. There were some problems in Odesa, such as emergency power cuts, and everything is being done to normalize the situation. Unfortunately, Kharkiv is still complicated,” the President said.

The President thanked the rescuers, police officers, employees of energy companies, and everyone who is helping to eliminate the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack.

Zelenskyy particularly praised the power engineers of Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Poltava, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia regions for their efficient work.
