KHARKIV OBLAST, UKRAINE, Apr 10 — On April 9, the Russian military attacked Kharkiv with guided munitions, destroying a civilian enterprise and injuring five people, said Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, during a briefing.

According to Syniehubov, the situation on the Kharkiv region’s border with the Russian Federation is currently calm and fully under the control of the Ukrainian forces.

“We do not see any Russian assault troops on the border, which they could use to open a new front. However, monitoring is conducted almost constantly to respond quickly to threats from the occupier,” the official said.

Syniehubov also called rumors about a possible Russian offensive on Kharkiv manipulations, saying, “Russia has only one goal, it’s to terrorize civilians, to commit terrorist acts. They have no other goals since 2022.”

The Economist reports, citing anonymous military sources in Kyiv, that Russia might want to turn Kharkiv into a “gray zone” that is unlivable for civilians.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that last time, during the Ukrainian counteroffensive, a “large-scale collapse of the Russian front” happened in the Kharkiv Oblast. If the Russian army decides to attack again, Kharkiv will be a “fatal” city for them.
