UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Sep 2 — Over the past day, there were 16 combat clashes in the Kupiansk direction, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelling Russian attacks near Synkivka and Hlushkivka, reported the General Staff.

Russia started its new offensive north and northeast in the Kharkiv region in May, but Ukrainian troops have stabilized the frontline in this section since. Now, heavy battles are ongoing in and around Vovchansk (three miles from the border, 46 miles away from Kharkiv) and near Lyptsi (six miles from the border, 12 miles from Kharkiv.)

In the Kharkiv direction, on September 1, Russian troops tried to break through the Ukrainian defense seven times near Vovchansk and Lyptsi.

Also, over the past day, the Russians hit Petropavlivka and Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi with airstrikes.

Russia claims to have occupied Synkivka and Stelmakhivka in the Kupiansk direction, but the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports they “did not observe confirmation of these claims.”

Geolocated footage from August 29 shows that Russian troops advanced into the center of Synkivka. However, Russian sources’ claims that they captured Synkivka and Stelmakhivka and advanced southeast of Kupiansk in the area of Pishchane and Tabaivka are not confirmed by the ISW.
