UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Aug 30 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an address in the aftermath of the Russian glide bomb attack on Kharkiv. The glide bomb attack killed at least five, including a 14-year-old girl, and injured 47 people.
Russian army attacks Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, often because it’s close to the border and the frontline. Their attacks intensified significantly since Moscow launched a new ground offensive north of the Kharkiv region in May.
“This strike was by a Russian glide aerial bomb. A strike that would not have happened if our defense forces could destroy Russian military aircraft where they are based. We need strong decisions from our partners to stop this terror. This is an absolutely fair need. And there is no rational reason to limit Ukraine’s defense. We need long-range capabilities. We need the implementation of air defense agreements for Ukraine. This is about saving lives,” Zelenskyy said.
Authorities reported that the Russians dropped five glide bombs on at least two districts of the city.
On July 18 Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the 4th European Political Community Summit that the President of Ukraine called on international partners to lift restrictions on the use of Western weapons and strengthen Ukrainian air defense.
He added that the Russian offensive on Kharkiv had been stopped because Ukraine had managed to attract “unquestioning support” from its partners.
