UKRAINE, Aug 16 — Families with children living in the 30-kilometer frontline area will receive $528 in assistance from UNICEF for the winter period, announced Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk.

The Kharkiv Oblast is the second among Ukrainian regions in terms of the number of children affected by the war. In the Donetsk region, the war affected 564 children, 155 in the Kherson region, 158 in the Dnipropetrovsk region, 131 in the Kyiv region, and 121 in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Iryna Vereshchuk said that the UNICEF initiative will come into effect at the beginning of the school year in September. UNICEF will pay money from then on.

On July 17, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi announced a new financial contribution of $100 million to help prepare for the winter season for displaced and war-affected people in Ukraine.

UNHCR has launched a comprehensive winter response plan as a part of a broader UN appeal to provide people with cash, help them repair homes or insulate them before the winter season, and pay energy bills.
