Volker Türk is visiting Ukraine for the first time as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Kharkiv RMA reported.
During a meeting with the High Commissioner and heads of UN missions, the head of the Kharkiv RMA Oleh Syniehubov discussed the issues of recording and investigating crimes committed by the Russian military and restoring the destroyed infrastructure.
Volker Türk pointed out that this is the first visit of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Ukraine. The international mission prepared a report on the situation with the violation of human rights during the hostilities in Kharkiv Oblast.
“Kharkiv Oblast has examples and evidence of war crimes of the aggressor. It is important that you are already documenting the crimes that occurred during the occupation. We have recently discussed this topic during a meeting with the Prosecutor General of Ukraine,” the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said.
According to the head of the Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office Oleksandr Filchakov, law enforcement officers are investigating within the pre-trial investigation:
- More than 6,000 crimes related to the bombing of civilian infrastructure;
- 84 – premeditated murders;
- 300 – on illegal deprivation of liberty.
Numerous criminal proceedings are being investigated on the facts of looting by the Russian military – more than 1,500 crimes.
Currently, law enforcement officers of Kharkiv Oblast are investigating the deaths of about 1700 and injuries of about 2700 civilians. Within the framework of the pre-trial investigation, 18 servicemen of the Russian Federation, members of private military companies, as well as illegal armed groups of the “L/DPR” were notified of suspicion of committing crimes.
