UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Sep. 3 — On Sep. 2, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), in its daily assessment, said about geolocated footage published on Sep. 1 that indicates Ukrainian forces advanced near the Vovcha River in northwestern Vovchansk.
Vovhcansk, a city to the north of Kharkiv, was one of the targets of the Russian ground offensive from the north that was launched in May 2024.
Currently, the city is almost destroyed by Russian attacks. Since the end of August, Ukraine’s army has been fighting to prevent Russia from advancing beyond the Vovcha river.
Oleksandr Danylenko, the spokesperson of the “Hart” brigade operating in northern Kharkiv Oblast, reported on Sep. 2 that drone usage is intense in the area and that Russian forces attack in small infantry groups of three to five soldiers using motorcycles.
Danylenko noted that Russian forces try to reach Ukrainian positions, but Ukrainian drones defend against their infiltration missions. According to him, Russian forces are constantly coming up with improved unmanned systems and continue unsuccessful attempts to cross the Vovcha river.
On Sep. 3, the General Staff reported about 10 Russian attacks north of Kharkiv Oblast near Vovchansk and Krasne Pershe. They also attacked 12 times on the Kupiansk axis near Petropavlivka, Monachynivka, and Kupiansk itself.
