CANADA, MONTREAL, Aug 4 — Ukrainian top tennis player Elina Svitolina reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal. She won against Amanda Anisimova, the seventh-ranked female player in the world from the US, reported Suspilne Sport.

Before the 1/8 finals, Svitolina won against two Russian tennis players, Kamilla Rakhimova and Anna Kalinskaya, who competed under a neutral flag.

Svitolina and Anisimova ended the first set with a 4:4 score. The Ukrainian player took the initiative in the second set and confidently won with a 6:1 score.

The 1/4 final is scheduled on August 5. Svitolina will meet Naomi Osaka, the winner of seven WTA Tour-level singles, including four majors.

This win is Svitolina’s best result over the last six years. Last time, she reached the quarterfinals in 2019, where she lost to Sofia Kenin, an American tennis player.

Svitolina was the third woman to carry the Ukrainian flag during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics.

In 2007, Svitolina moved from Odesa to Kharkiv, her current residence. In 2020, the Ukrainian top tennis player became the honorary citizen of Kharkiv.
